For this weeks genius hour I created a TED talk about what I found and did during my genius hour. This TED talk gives information that can be beneficial to anyone would like to try a genius hour similar to mine. I wrote a note to myself and it was focused on a lot of negative as I had an extremely bad weekend. I learned how to take negative things such as someone hitting my car on Friday and turn the negative event into something positive such as I love how patient I am in hectic situations like someone hitting my car. This is the best way to write notes to one self because I still brought in that negative event that happened, but added a positive twist in order to have a balance of both positive and negative within my note. A trouble I had this week was realizing that I found a way to have a balance and now my genius hour is coming to and end. I am struggling to complete this genius hour as it is my passion. I will continue sharing progress on this genius hour that I now will complete on my own time; however, it will no longer be weekly. I will continue writing notes to self in order to develop a note for each day in my jar of happiness for 2017.
Thank you for following me on this genius hour journey!

Genius Hour Day 6
02-27-2017
Today for my genius hour I decided to do something different and watch a Ted talk "The Battle Between Your Present and Future Self." By: Daniel Goldstein. I wanted to watch the talk in order to allow me to hear views of the self in order to help me develop my notes to self. I have learnt that there are two selves within a person and because of that, the research I found on having a balance of positive and negative notes is beneficial in order to reach and grow within the two selves. These notes allow me to commit to something I enjoy and/or did not like in my day in order to change things to achieve my goals and grow on the positive things that are guiding me to my goal.
For my next genius hour research, I will try to go in this process of writing something good that is allowing me to reach my goal and something that I should work on that is inhibiting my future self. I realized that writing both positive and negative notes are good; however, when thinking back to my notes, I am constantly focusing on the negative. For my next research I wish to research how to focus on positive, rather than negative.

Genius Hour Day 5
02-21-2017
Today is my fifth genius hour and I am unsure as to how I am coming about it. I have done research on the positive and negative affects of writing notes to oneself in my two previous hours and found that there are some negative outcomes of writing positive notes to self. Because of these findings I am writing my note to self with one good and one negative thing about my day. I sat down for a while and thought deeply on what I wanted to write. This was a challenge for me because I did not know what was an appropriate negative thing to write on my note. I tried to think of something that I wish went better without being extremely negative as I am trying to see if writing about that negative thing will allow me to reflect on it and develop a strategy to make it better.
For next weeks genius hour, I feel that it is important to continue the negative comments to see if it is more beneficial than writing all positive. This needs to occur in my future genius hours to actually see an affect as one negative note will not have an impact on anything. Until next week!

Genius Hour Day 4
02/14/17
In todays genius hour I spent time researching the negative factors in writing positive notes to oneself. I researched many videos and websites within this hour. What I have learned in this genius hour is that it may not be beneficial to constantly focus on the positive factors in your life. This may not be beneficial because it is important to recognize the negative things in order to reflect on them and develop skills and emotions to overcome those negative experiences, rather than ignore them.
This resonated with me because I have experienced a few days where I struggled to write a positive note to myself as there were many negatives that were weighing me down, but I ignored them and forced myself to think of something positive. This is not beneficial because those negative experiences are still with me and I feel that I only covered them up. The trouble I had this week was grasping that fact that it is okay to look and reflect on the negative aspects within your day and that we all need a balance of looking at both negative and positive. This challenged my thinking about how I want to continue these notes to myself as I question if I want to gain a balance and start reflecting on the negative as well. For my upcoming genius hours, I may turn towards developing a negative and positive balance of notes in order to see how that affects my emotion rather than strictly focusing on the positive.

Genius Hour Day 3
02-06-2017
Today was another day of my genius hour. For todays genius hour I decided to focus on researching if writing notes to self will affect ones emotional state. I looked at websites, studies and TED talks. It was interesting to find that most of the results said that writing notes to self can increase ones happiness as it is a process of recognizing and seeing the good and ignoring the bad. Summing up majority of my findings suggest that writing notes increase 5 aspect of ones life. These 4 aspects are 1)Happiness 2)Success 3)Gives you something to look forward to 4)Confidence/Esteem 5)Positive life experiences and meaning. Though I found a lot of common findings on writing notes to self, my difficulty was finding negatives about writing notes to self. I have yet to find negative factors, thus I will use that as my focus next genius hour. Something I need to do before my next genius hour is to reflect on how writing my notes could be a negative thing. When writing my note today, I am reflecting on what I have learnt about the positive outcomes found from writing a note.

Genius Hour Day 2
01/31/2017
Today was my second official day of genius hour. Today I spent time writing my note to self in relation to a lot of reflection. I started the hour with thinking of what to writing and finally writing one positive thing about my day as well as something I love about myself. Then I spent time reflecting on what went wrong in my genius hour last week as I allowed my negative emotions to overweight my positive note taking. I thought to myself ways in which I can make this experience more positive and allow the positive messages impact my emotions.
This week has been stressful with school, but when writing my positive note I made sure I reflected on all the past notes I have written. Reflecting back on the past notes has definitely made me realize that I will have good and bad days, I just need to focus on the positive and it truly lifted my spirit and made me smile. Below is am image of me confidently holding up my note to self.

In next weeks genius hour, I will research blogs and videos to see if anyone has done something similar to myself. If so, I want to note how they played it out as well as the outcomes they found.

Genius Hour Day 1
1/24/2017
Hi all! Today I completed my third genius hour. I proceeded to take out a sticky note and write something that was good about my day and one thing I love about myself. I wrote the two points and added it to "My Happy Jar." What I learnt about my topic this week is that that one thing I love about myself does not have to be based of appearance, it can be based off a personality trait I have or an action I have done today. I also realized that most of my good memories of the day involve others. This week I struggled a lot writing my sticky note. I struggled because I have been having a stressful week and when times are not the greatest, it is hard to think of positive things about yourself or day. Before next week's genius hour, I feel that I need to research factors that I could love about myself or day in order to think develop positive notes even on tough days. I still question if writing positive notes about myself and day actually affect my emotions in a positive way. From here on I will push myself to develop deeper notes and to think of what I wrote when my days are not the brightest.

Genius Hour
Welcome!
For the next few weeks I will be documenting a task that I will be working on for two hours each week. I will be experimenting and researching if writing a positive sentence to myself each week will increase my esteem and happiness. My genius hour question is how will a positive note a day for eight weeks affect my emotional state? I welcome you to follow along in this Genius hour project. I hope you enjoy!
Copyright
Copyright is a major issue within schools today. It is an aspect of research that is looked over by many. Students need to become educated on taking information from the internet as a tool for their learning, rather than a source of plagiarism.
Copyright is the process of getting a license in order to protect your work from the public. It is the ability to control the altering of your work by making certain aspects of your work inaccessible and some to be used to a certain extent without the individual asking you. Copyright is a way for everyone to share knowledge and for teachers to use in order to create innovative knowledge for their students. Copyright exists to make sure that work is on the internet for fair use such as teaching, studying and criticisms (Figg, ND). Something about copyright that I feel would be important to teach students are the types of copyright labels so they can research information online and know what information they can and cannot use and what information they can alter. An example of the types of copyright that I would teach my students are presented in the image below. Another example of what teachers should educate their students on in regards to copyright are types of plagiarism, so students understand how to present information that is accessible in the proper manner. This is also shown in an image below.
